Ocean Conservation Tour

MONDAYS, TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS at 10 AM (Excluding Holidays)

“Seas the day!” Come see, experience and learn about the Hawaii Ocean Science and Technology (HOST) Park administered by the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority (NELHA), up-close. Includes an engaging tour of West Hawaii Explorations Academy, a charter school at NELHA that is inspiring innovation through science inquiry and project-based education. The students will lead you throughout their campus, and share with you all of the great, research projects currently underway. Followed up with a visit to the Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion Tower (OTEC), ending with a tour of Legacy Reef Foundation where they partnering with local communities to plan, develop and support coral reef protection and restoration projects throughout the world.

Keahole Center For Sustainability focuses particularly on technology showcased on the Big Island and here at NELHA. If you have even just smidgen of curiosity about the Big Island’s role in cutting edge green energy, sustainable aquaculture, desalination, and research efforts, or if you have a passion for the environment and inspiring the next generation, this presentation is for you.

Sustainable Aquaculture Tour

WEDNESDAYS & FRIDAYS at 10 AM, (Excluding Holidays)

Visit four different sites at NELHA! To see the amazing sustainable world of the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority’s (NELHA)  Hawaii Ocean Science and Technology Park (HOST) up close, join Friends of NELHA on Wednesdays and Fridays for the Sustainable Aquaculture Tour, where you can experience three cutting edge HOST campus sites after a brief presentation.

You’ll get to see the Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion facility (OTEC), visit a fascinating fish farm research facility, and sample grilled abalone at a huge aquaculture farm!
